With anywhere from 12 to over 27 million people enslaved worldwide, we can easily say that we have a modern-day slavery epidemic on our hands.
Sex trafficking is a form of slavery and is when people are forced to do commerical sex acts against their will (actual transportation isn’t required by law). Child sex trafficking or DMST (domestic minor sex trafficking) is on the rise. In the US it is estimated that at least 100,000 children are used in prostitution and exploitation (this doesn’t include adult victims) every year. The average age of entry into prostitution is 13 years old.
Sex trafficking and exploitation is happening in residential brothels, street prostitution, strip clubs, pornography, massage parlors and more. We must educate our selves and our communities and then take action to help combat and bring an end to human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of our women and children, because love doesn’t exploit.
Illuminating Love is working to combat trafficking and exploitation in New England and internationally as well, through strip club outreach, rescue homes, preventative care, education and more.
